I'm sure you've seen the pics posted over at ChopperDave's, but I had a little history to go along with the pics as well...
Read on:
It was built in 1939 by Mark Anthony (in Tyler Texas) as an experimental prototype for Harley, that unfortunately never made it into production...As you can see, it's a single cylinder Knucklehead motor, built with a unit trans and engine case...The claim behind this motor was that it had less than half of the moving parts of a 61 inch HD OHV motor...It was also originally thought that Anthony planned to share his design with Federal Mogul and the Schwinn Bicycle Company...
Anthony built this 30+ cubic inch motor in 1940, using parts machined from his design and additional parts from a 1939 HD...In August of 1942 he received a patent on the design from the US Patent Dept...He also stated that the motor was capable of doing 80+ and could cruise at 60 mph all day long...
Anthony stopped working on production of this bike due to World War 2 and never made another one like it...The bike was ridden around Texas for many years following Anthony's death and eventually ended up sitting in a barn for many years in west Texas...
It's now on display at The Wheels Through Time Museum in Maggie Valley, NC...If you're in the area, check the place out!
Very, very neat and talk about the barn find of all time!!
